Newcastle United have held talks with Crystal Palace about the possible transfer of winger Andros Townsend, according to Sky sources.
Newcastle failed with an attempt to sign the 26-year-old during the January transfer window, but have now returned with a new bid to bring the winger back to St James' Park.
Townsend joined Newcastle from Tottenham in January 2016, but left to join Palace after the Eagles triggered his £13m release clause following the Magpies' relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2015-16 season.
Rafa Benitez is an admirer of Townsend, who scored four goals in 13 games during his six months under the Spaniard on Tyneside, and is keen to seal a deal for the player who has also been linked with Leicester City.
Townsend played 39 games in all competitions for Palace and signed a five-year contract at Selhurst Park in July 2016.
Newcastle have already been busy in the transfer market after completing the signing of South Korea international Ki Sung-yueng on a two-year deal from Swansea.
