Steve McClaren slams Newcastle's attitude after Palace humbling

Steve McClaren said Newcastle's attitude was below the standard required in their 5-1 hammering at Crystal Palace.
Newcastle took the lead in Saturday's Premier League clash at Selhurst Park after 10 minutes through Papiss Cisse, but quickly fell apart and were 3-1 down at half-time thanks to goals from James McArthur, Yannick Bolasie and Wilfried Zaha.
Manager McClaren tried to tinker with his formation, replacing Ayoze Perez with Jamaal Lascelles, but Bolasie's second goal soon after the break killed the game before McArthur also added a second for the Eagles.
And McClaren was unhappy with the way his side responded in the second half.
He told Sky Sports: "It's about hard work, covering and working for each other and winning your duels.

"It's about attitude and it's about running backwards as quickly as you run forwards.
"After the third goal we didn't do that. It's disappointing and not our standard, and it's not what the fans want.
"It's the disappointments we're not getting over within the game and from game-to-game. Just don't go down, keep going and fighting and keep doing your job.
"We never recover from huge disappointments."
The result leaves Newcastle in the Premier League relegation zone, and McClaren conceded his side are in a fight to stay up.
"We've got 24 games to go and we're in a relegation fight, there's no doubt about that," he said. "But there's enough games to go."
McClaren also revealed he would be dragging in his players for an extra training session on Sunday.
"I said to the players 'back to work tomorrow morning'," he said. "These players have got to come through this, but there's no one more determined than myself to do that, starting tomorrow morning. We hadn't planned the extra session.
"It's not right. We need to sort it out. You're going to do that on the training field, within the group, and within the work, and we've got to come through together.
"I'm hurting as much for the fans as ourselves. I'm really hurting."
