Remi Garde says Norwich deserved their 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

Remi Garde admitted his struggling Aston Villa side did not deserve anything from their 2-0 defeat at Norwich.

Jonny Howson and Dieumerci Mbokani got the goals to condemn Villa to an 18th straight game without a win.

The loss leaves them remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League, 11 points from safety after Swansea's draw with Crystal Palace.

"We didn't play well enough to win the game or draw it," Garde told Sky Sports. "We didn't play as well as we did the last two games, we missed more passes, more opportunities, we didn't have enough possession and chances to be more dangerous.

"Norwich deserved the win. The spirit in the team was good but we didn't show enough commitment sometimes, for example when we conceded the first goal we had a lot players behind the ball but we were not efficient enough. We didn't deserve more."

The defeat continues a miserable run of form for Villa that has left them with a mountain to climb if they are to avoid relegation.

Garde, who was appointed in early November as Tim Sherwood's successor, says he is very concerned by the situation but has not given up hope.

"I will be the last man not to believe that we are still capable of winning games," he said. "I am sure we will, today was not the right one for many reasons but I still believe my players are good enough to win.

"Unfortunately this season is a very difficult one for Villa. We are working with players in bad moments, sometimes in football you have to cope with these situations and we will all together because we are playing for a big club."

Asked whether he will act quickly when the January transfer window opens, Garde added: "Hopefully yes, I am working on that because it will be very important for us in the second half of the season.

"We are going to strengthen the team because of the situation we are in we need fresh blood. It will be important, but it is not because we lost today everything has changed.

"The previous two weeks we were more hopeful than today but we have to see that a few players could help us to win some games in the second half of the season."
