David Moyes would be the perfect replacement for Tim Sherwood as the new Aston Villa boss, according to Alan McInally.

Sherwood was dismissed on Sunday morning after being in charge for 28 games over eight months, with the club stating "results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative".

Villa's owners will be desperate the next manager can revitalise the team after they fell to a sixth successive Premier League defeat on Saturday. Sunderland winning on Sunday left Villa bottom on just four points after 10 games.

Kevin MacDonald has been installed as the interim manager, while assistant boss Ray Wilkins, first-team coach Mark Robson and performance analyst Seamus Brad have all left the club.

McInally, who played for Aston Villa from 1987-89, believes Moyes, currently managing in La Liga with Real Sociedad, would be a good person to step in at Villa Park and turn fortunes around.

"I think David Moyes is a terrific manager," the Sky Sports football pundit said about the former Manchester United boss on Sky Sports News HQ.
