Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful Dele Alli will be able to feature against Southampton on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring injury

Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has returned to training for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in January.

The England international has not featured for Spurs since their victory over Fulham on January 20, but could now be in line to return away to Southampton on Saturday.

Spurs play Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday, but it has come too soon for Alli, who has not travelled with the squad.

Mauricio Pochettino said: "I think Dele is close, we will see if it is possible for him to be involved on Saturday against Southampton."

The manager also revealed Kieran Trippier has been left out of Tottenham's squad for the game against Dortmund.

The right-back featured in their last two matches - against Chelsea and Arsenal - but Pochettino said: "Kieran Trippier is at home after two games. He was so tired, and has a small problem."

Eric Dier says Tottenham players are not feeling sorry for themselves following injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli

Two players who have travelled to Germany with the rest of the squad are Harry Winks and Eric Dier.

Winks was unfit to play Arsenal on Saturday, while Dier has not featured since the start of February, but Pochettino said: "We need to assess both.

"They are here because we need one day more to assess. Dier is a lot of time to not play. We will see if he can be on the bench - I don't believe he can start. Winks is the same."
