Mauricio Pochettino says the 2-1 defeat to Burnley seriously dents Tottenham's bid to win the Premier League

Mauricio Pochettino has conceded the Premier League title is now out of Tottenham's reach after their crushing defeat at Burnley.

Harry Kane scored on his return to the Spurs line-up after seven weeks out injured but his goal was in vain as Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes extended Burnley's unbeaten run to eight games.

The defeat saw Tottenham miss the chance to move to within two points of Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

Asked if Spurs' title bid was gone, Pochettino told Sky Sports: "Yes.

"We are very disappointed because there are 11 games, the gap can be bigger.

"Of course, there are a lot of games to play but today, in my mind, we had to win the three points to put pressure on them.

"We didn't for different reasons, our mistakes and only because of us. We cannot blame anyone, only ourselves because we were not able to win."

Pochettino was less than impressed with referee Mike Dean at the full-time whistle at Turf Moor

Emotions got the better of Pochettino at full-time at Turf Moor, with the Spurs boss racing onto the field to confront referee Mike Dean and his officials.

A heated exchange ensued and continued down the tunnel and they made their way off the pitch. Pochettino and Dean refused to disclose what was said when asked to comment by Sky Sports immediately after the match.

But when asked to by the written media at Turf Moor, Pochettino admitted he made a mistake.

"When you feel so disappointed and upset, maybe sometimes you make mistakes," he added.

"We made mistakes on the pitch and I made a mistake after, I needed to go straight away to my dressing room and wait there, drink some water and be relaxed.

"But what happened, happened. I will accept everything that happens. Hopefully it is not going further."
