Mousa Dembele will miss Tottenham's Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday with an ankle injury.
Midfielder Dembele was hurt during the first half of Saturday evening's 3-2 win over Wolves and was replaced by Heung-Min Son, himself subbed later in the match for tactical reasons.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said on Tuesday: "We need to wait today after the scan to have a better idea.
"The most important thing is he didn't suffer an injury to his bone. That is good. Maybe his ligament is damaged but we need to know - today after the scan we will know better."
The Belgium international had been hoping to celebrate his 250th game in Tottenham colours in less painful fashion.
Dembele said on Instagram on Sunday: "Disappointing to have gone off injured last night but proud to have played 250 times for this club."
The injury means his 251st Spurs appearance will have to wait until at least the weekend, when Tottenham travel to Crystal Palace, or after the international break when they play host to Chelsea at Wembley.
Eric Dier (thigh), Danny Rose (groin), Jan Vertonghen (hamstring) and Victor Wanyama (knee) will also miss Tuesday's must-win clash with the reigning Eredivisie champions.
Hugo Lloris is also suspended after being sent off in the reverse fixture, in which PSV came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw and dent Tottenham's hopes of progressing beyond the group stage.
Michel Vorm and Paulo Gazzaniga are vying to replace the France goalkeeper at Wembley.
Spurs trail second-place Inter Milan by five points in Group B with only three games remaining and Pochettino has accepted his side face an uphill battle to qualify for the last 16.
"This is the reality - we have a small possibility to go to the next stage," he said. "It doesn't affect us. We know very well we need to win tomorrow."
