Tottenham's new club-record signing Davinson Sanchez is set to make his debut against Burnley on Sunday after obtaining a work permit and international clearance.

The £38.4m acquisition from Ajax can become one of the best centre-backs in the world, according to Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

He has trained with his new team-mates for a number of days and is likely to be included against the Clarets, at least from the bench, as the outgoing Kevin Wimmer remains a target for Stoke, Crystal Palace and West Brom.

The arrival of Sanchez also frees up the potential for Eric Dier to continue in midfield, where he has started this season over Victor Wanyama and prefers to play, according to widespread reports this summer.

Spurs host Sean Dyche's side for their second game at their new Wembley home, having been beaten there by Chelsea last weekend.

Tottenham are now also working on a work permit for right-back Serge Aurier, having agreed a £23m deal to sign him from Paris Saint-Germain.

Aurier's situation is more complicated than that of Sanchez, however, with the decision over his appeal against a two-month suspended jail sentence for assaulting a police officer still outstanding.

Aurier is poised to become their third acquisition of the summer after Sanchez and goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, and Tottenham are hoping to do as many as two more deals before the August 31 deadline.

They remain in talks to sign Juan Foyth - another promising young centre-back from Argentinian side Estudiantes - and want to sign long-term target Ross Barkley from Everton.
