We take a look at the ways in which Tottenham need to strengthen in the summer transfer window.

As per the club's policy, and similarly to the 2015 summer transfer window, Tottenham have addressed their biggest issues as early as possible. Signing a No 9 to compete with Harry Kane has been top priority since the protracted saga over Saido Berahino last summer, and they have also been keen to strengthen the holding-midfield area, where they lacked cover for Eric Dier last term.
With those areas in mind, Spurs have signed the young Dutch international Vincent Janssen for £18.8m from AZ Alkmaar - the top scorer in the Eredivisie with 27 goals last season, and long-term target Victor Wanyama for £11m from Southampton.
Spurs can now afford to take their time to choose further signings in an ever-changing and volatile market. They also need to move some fringe players on. The club are actively looking for a young attacking-midfielder and a right-footed centre-back, but only if the right options come along.
Sky sources reported in June that Alex Pritchard had been put up for sale for £8m, while experienced centre-back Federico Fazio, who went on loan to Sevilla last season, is almost certain to leave. The futures of second-choice goalkeeper Michel Vorm and forward Nacer Chadli are also far from certain, while midfielder Tom Carroll appears surplus to requirements after Wanyama's arrival, and only has a year left on his current contract.
Sky sources also understand Spurs are looking at possible new additions to their U19s group, and have sent scouts to the U19s European Championships in Germany, which began this week.
It is not clear who Tottenham intend to move for first in the attacking-midfield position, but Pochettino has previously said they would look to sign players familiar with the Premier League if they can get them for the right price.
Relegated Newcastle's Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum is thought to be of interest but his reported asking price of £25m may be too high. Pochettino likes to have versatile attacking-midfielders who can be used on the left, right or through the middle, and Wijnaldum fits that profile.
Spurs also like to sign long-term targets they have followed closely. They have previously been interested in Mainz and Turkey star Yunus Malli, another exciting attacker who scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga last season.
Tottenham have also scouted the French league extensively and they liked France U21 international Ousmane Dembele before he signed for Borussia Dortmund. Lille's highly-coveted Sofiane Boufal, who can play anywhere across the attacking-midfield line, might be a more viable option. while they also like Marseille's Georges-Kevin N'Koudou.
Spurs have also scouted the Croatian and Polish top-flights within the last year, and another player they are aware of is the young Croatian playmaker Ante Coric, who plays for Dinamo Zagreb. They like Christian Tello, the young Spaniard, too.
With academy player Cameron Carter-Vickers thought to be nearing a first-team berth, a right-footed centre-back is less of a pressing issue for Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino had previously admitted an interest in Samuel Umtiti, who signed for Barcelona this week, while they have also admired Switzerland's Fabian Schar for some time.
"To play in the Champions League, the Premier League and the cups, it's important to have a very good balance," said Pochettino. "We need to improve our squad. The Champions League demands a lot of energy, more than the Europa League."
"The signing of Janssen is a good one because Heung-Min Son isn't suitable cover for Kane. I still feel Spurs need another covering centre-back because you need four really good players in that area and I don't think you can count Eric Dier.
"However, their big issue is who they can't afford to let go and Hugo Lloris is the vital one. Tottenham cannot take the risk of replacing him, even if it does help fund their stadium."
