Tottenham have had a bid for Vincent Janssen turned down, according to his Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.
The Dutch international striker was given permission to talk to Spurs earlier this month and he spent a day in London listening to Mauricio Pochettino's vision, with German side Wolfsburg also understood to be keen on the 22-year-old, who was Eridivisie's top scorer last season with 27 goals in 34 matches.
However, Spurs remain the only club to have made a concrete bid, although it was too low for Alkmaar to consider selling according to the club's technical director Max Huiberts.
"The difference between the offer and the price we demand was too big," he told De Telegraaf.
"But Spurs have made the only official bid. I've read a lot of speculation and been telephoned by other clubs but no one else has made any concrete offer."
Reports in the Netherlands claim Alkmaar want around £16m for Janssen, who scored against England in his second international game at Wembley in March and now has three goals in five appearances for his country.
Spurs made their first signing of the season on Thursday with the capture of midfielder Victor Wanyama from Southampton.
