Newcastle have entered talks with Tottenham over the possibility of signing Andros Townsend, according to Sky sources.
Townsend, who was dropped from the first team for two weeks in November after a bust-up with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner, has not featured for Spurs since October 22.
Fellow academy graduate Josh Onomah has since leapfrogged him in Mauricio Pochettino's plans and the 24-year-old is now expected to leave White Hart Lane this month with Spurs understood to value the England international at £14m.
Sky Sports News HQ reported earlier this week he is believed to prefer a move to Newcastle - who are confident of completing the deal ahead of West Brom, Watford and Aston Villa having already spent £17m this week on Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet.
Townsend has kept himself fit by playing for Tottenham's U21 side and impressed in the 5-4 defeat to Chelsea's youngsters earlier this week.
However, Sky sources report no agreement is yet in place.
