Andros Townsend would prefer a move to Newcastle who are interested in the out of favour Tottenham winger, according to Sky sources.
The England international is out of the first-team picture at White Hart Lane having not featured for the first team since October 22 and manager Mauricio Pochettino appears happy to let him go.
And the possibility of a January exit seems to be building momentum with SSNHQ reporting Townsend's desire to head for St James' Park over other possible destinations in this month's transfer window.
It is believed the 24-year-old has told Tottenham he does not want to go to West Brom as part of any deal that would also see Saido Berahino move the other way.
Spurs saw three bids for Berahino rejected in the summer, and SSNHQ understand they are still keen to sign the England striker, whose attitude has been criticised by Tony Pulis this season.
Tottenham were prepared to include Townsend as part of any Berahino deal in the summer but the winger, who was dropped from the first-team for two weeks in November after a bust-up with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner, has his sights set elsewhere this month.
Townsend has not made a Premier League start for Spurs this season and Watford and the Baggies made enquiries earlier in January.
It is understood that Berahino is keen on heading to White Hart Lane and that Newcastle are monitoring Townsend, with a view to making a bid.
