Mauricio Pochettino was happy with Tottenham's offensive display at Everton but his players were upset they failed to win.
Spurs travelled to Merseyside on the back of three victories over the festive period but failed to kick 2016 off with a win as the Toffees held them to a 1-1 draw.
The visitors dominated large spells of the first half at Goodison Park but had to Dele Alli to thank after his strike in the 45th minute levelled Aaron Lennon's opener.
"We can be proud, it was a fantastic performance," Pochettino told Sky Sports. "The first half was amazing, an amazing performance, the team played very well.
"We started the second half in the same way, but maybe in the last 15 minutes Everton drew level.
"At the moment, the changing room is down, though, perhaps a little sad because our expectation was to try to win the game. We played a very good game but it was impossible to win.
"The chances we created and the performance I think we deserved more. But this is football, so we need to keep working hard because we are in a good way."
Man of the Match Alli was the star performer for Spurs, capping a fine individual performance with a stunning equaliser on the cusp of half-time.
When asked to comment on Alli's performance, Pochettino chose to heap praise on his team.
"The goal [Alli's] was great but the performance of the team was fantastic, we feel very proud," he added.
"It is important to keep working hard and I think we need to congratulate the players because the way they played was fantastic."
The result leaves Spurs three points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United in the fourth and final Champions League spot, and just six points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal.
The north Londoners have emerged as surprise contenders for the title this term, but Pochettino refused to indulge in such speculation.
"You never know, in football anything can happen," he replied when asked if Spurs could win the league.
"But the way we played today we can achieve whatever we want. We need to keep working hard be strong for the future."
