Tottenham will attempt to sign a striker in January but are reluctant to return for West Brom's Saido Berahino, according to Sky sources.

Spurs failed with four bids for the England U21 international in the summer, causing Berahino to vow never to play for Albion chairman Jeremy Peace again.

Berahino quickly settled his differences with Peace but has recently struggled for first-team games, playing instead for the club's U21s.

And the fact that Berahino has not pushed on since the summer, coupled with Peace's flat rejection of over £23m on deadline day, has made Spurs reluctant to return for the forward next month.

Spurs have other targets in mind from a lengthy list of players scouted by new head of recruitment Paul Mitchell and his team, among them the out-of-favour Barcelona forward Sandro Ramirez, Marseille's Michy Batshuayi, Basel striker Breel Embolo and Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi.

It is understood a deal for Belgium international Batshuayi would be difficult due to reluctance from both the player and Marseille to transfer halfway through a season.

Reports in Spain say Barca's Spain U21 international Sandro is keen to get regular football elsewhere, while 18-year-old Embolo has been scoring goals in the Europa League and the Swiss Super League.

Sky sources also understand Spurs are willing to sell both Andros Townsend and Federico Fazio next month.

Sky Sports News HQ reported earlier this month that a loan deal may be a more likely solution for Townsend, given Spurs' asking price is upwards of £14m.

Argentine Fazio, meanwhile, has made just one appearance in the Capital One Cup this term and is keen to return to Spain, with former club Sevilla having publicly admitted their interest in re-signing their former captain this week.
