Portsmouth boss Paul Cook apologises to Luton's Cameron McGeehan on behalf of fans

Portsmouth manager Paul Cook has apologised for the home fans' reaction at Fratton Park on Monday after Luton's Cameron McGeehan broke his leg.

McGeehan was booked for a frustrated response to his injury as he was tended to by medical staff during Luton's 1-0 defeat.

Portsmouth fans cheered as McGeehan, 21, was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, and were reportedly heard chanting "you're going home in an ambulance". 

Cook has now come out to apologise to the player and his club.

"As the manager of the club, we can only apologise," Cook told Sky Sports News HQ

"We wish the lad a speedy recovery. At the point of the lad going down I think our fans were embroiled in a bit of what you would call 'banter', even though it was wrong.

"From the lad going off on a stretcher, common sense should have prevailed quickly and we should have shown a little bit more respect to the player.
