Reading's Sky Bet Championship clash at home to Fulham was abandoned at half-time due to fog.

Referee James Linington decided to call the game off with the score at 0-0 after both his assistants confirmed they could not see the full width of the pitch.

Dense fog has been present across the south of England on Friday, with Brighton's home game against Cardiff City called off around an hour-and-a-half before kick-off.

Reading boss Jaap Stam said: "In some way I can understand why he made the decision. We wanted to play on, but the linesman overruled the referee basically, because they couldn't see the other side of the pitch and didn't want to take the risk.

"They called us in at half-time. We already did the team-talk and then the referee called us in and told us what they were going to do. We can't do anything about that. We can say we want to play but if they make that decision we can't do anything.

"We started well. We got a couple of good chances and it's disappointing that you can't finish the game. I can understand the fans showing their disappointment too. I think they need to make a decision before we go out."

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic said: "They explained they cannot control the game and from my side I can understand why. I am unhappy for our supporters that travelled to the game.

"It's not a question for myself. I asked the referee, 'if you can keep control of the game, keep going'."
