Bolton's penultimate match of the season against Brentford has been called off due to Bolton players going on strike over unpaid wages.
Despite prospective new owner Laurence Bassini pledging to pay the players their March dues to ensure Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash would go ahead, the club "regrettably" confirmed its postponement.
A club statement said they "would like to apologise for the inconvenience this will cause" - but they are now deemed guilty of misconduct and will be referred to an independent disciplinary commission by the English Football League.
"The EFL board will now consider the matter of determining whether the fixture will be played or not," the EFL said.
Bolton's already relegated players announced on Friday that they would not fulfil their remaining fixtures this season, which also includes a trip to Nottingham Forest on the final day, unless they are paid.
Bassini, who has agreed a deal with current Wanderers owner Ken Anderson that is still waiting to be ratified by the EFL, told Sky Sports News on Friday night that he had transferred £1m in attempt to pay the players earlier in the day.
But he also admitted he is not allowed to pay them until his deal to by the club goes through and claimed that Anderson was "coming up with lots of excuses" over a requested shares certificate.
It marks another sad day for the cash-strapped Lancashire club, who have struggled to pay players and staff all season.
Bolton were relegated after the recent defeat to Aston Villa - their 27th of the season - and they currently sit second-bottom of the Championship, four points above Ipswich.
