Bolton Wanderers have signed centre-back Mark Beevers on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old left Millwall, for whom he scored in their unsuccessful League One play-off final last season, after his contract expired.

The defender has signed a two-year deal at the Macron Stadium, with Bolton recently relegated from the Championship and under new ownership and management.

Barnsley-born Beevers started his career with Sheffield Wednesday and was a member of the Owls side that won promotion to the Championship in 2012.

Following loan spells with MK Dons and Millwall, the former England U19 joined Millwall permanently in January 2013 and went on to play over 100 times for the Lions, scoring eight goals.
