Marco Silva says Everton's win over Bournemouth was important for his side following a run of poor performances and results

Marco Silva expects Ademola Lookman to get "better and better" after he impressed in Everton's 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of 2018 on loan with RB Leipzig and there was speculation that he might leave Goodison Park in the summer.

However, he caught the eye on his second Premier League start of the season and grabbed an assist when he set up Dominic Calvert-Lewin's late goal.

"Fantastic player," Silva told Sky Sports when asked about Lookman. "I said since the first day that I joined the club that it was really important to keep him.

"You know what happened in pre-season. I put high pressure on and turned his mind to keep him here with our club and I think what we saw today we will see better and better in the future.

"He has all the quality to play in that position in our model."

Highlights from Everton's 2-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League

Everton's win over Bournemouth was their first home league victory since November 24.

It also came in the week that Everton owner Farhad Moshiri described the club's Premier League position as "just not good enough".

"We knew before the match it was important for us to win again at home," said Silva.

"The last few results have not been good enough for our level and our quality. It was a really important game for us. It's easy to understand why, at the beginning of the match, in some positions we didn't play with the normal confidence.

"But that quality we showed in October, November, I am sure we can show again. We have to achieve good results and it's really important to win again at home and get some confidence. A clean sheet is also important from a tough game.

"They started better than us, then we started to play our game and better in the second half. At the end we deserved the three points. The performance in some moments wasn't the best but it was important to win the match."

Kurt Zouma scored the opening goal and Silva revealed he had spoken to the defender about getting off the mark for the season.

"Yesterday we had a conversation about his performances in set-pieces because, with his quality, we have to score more and I push him to score," added the Everton boss.

"It was just him and Jags [Phil Jagielka] from our central defenders who haven't scored until now and it was important for him to score and Dominic too."
