Ashley Williams is pleased to put a "frustrating" season with Everton behind him as he looks forward to the next campaign.

The Wales skipper has not featured for Everton since being sent off in the 2-1 defeat against Burnley on March 3, despite being a mainstay in the team beforehand - with 34 appearances.

Everton are yet to hire a replacement for the sacked Sam Allardyce and Williams is excited for a fresh start when he returns to the club.

"It has been frustrating, definitely," Williams said, ahead of Wales' match against Mexico on Tuesday.

"But that season is done now and I'm just looking forward to this game and pre-season for the next campaign.

"I haven't played since the Uruguay game (at the China Cup) but I've been training every day and trying to keep fit that way.

"It's always difficult not being involved and you want to play because playing a game is that bit harder.

"But what can you do? I've just tried to stay in shape and I'll just try and use my experience as best I can against Mexico.

"We'll see how long everyone plays as that's up to the gaffer."
