Wayne Rooney stunned Goodison Park with a 58-yard wonder strike to clinch a hat-trick in Everton's 4-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday night. Was it the goal of the season so far?
Having already scored twice to put Everton 2-0 in front against the fellow strugglers, Rooney wasn't done there.
Joe Hart had done well to race from his line to dispossess the onrushing Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but could only find Rooney, 58 yards out. You'd think not much danger from that distance.
However, Rooney brilliantly drilled the ball over everyone and into the net to lift the roof off the Gwladys Street End. The trajectory of the hit was sublime. It takes some skill to control such an effort from so far out.
Ashley Williams' header made it four late on, as new boss Sam Allardyce had plenty to smile about as he watched on from the stands.
