Ronald Koeman says Everton deserved to win at Burnley rather than lose

Ronald Koeman insisted his Everton side deserved to win at Burnley after seeing them suffer a 2-1 defeat at Turf Moor instead.

The Merseysiders dominated for large spells of the game but fell behind when Sam Vokes exploited Maarten Stekelenburg's mistake six minutes before half-time.

Everton responded well and dictated as Yannick Bolasie drew them level, only for Scott Arfield to get Burnley's winner in stoppage time.

That left Koeman bemused at how his side did not take more from the match and he said: "I'm very disappointed because [we should have had] one point, at least one point today.

"We were by far the better team - 1-0 down, it's difficult against them at home. They have good defensive organisation and are physically strong. Their centre-backs are good headers.

"You need a lot of qualities and I think we put that quality in the second half. We scored at 1-1 and then you expect to win the game.

"You at least expect not to lose. Sometimes football is very unfair but okay. It's hard to take and a disappointment, of course."

Koeman rued the fact his players could not take more of the 20 chances they created and praised Burnley for their resilience.

The Dutchman added: "We started well and we had some good open shots in the box. Also in the second half, there were a lot of defenders in the box trying to block the ball.
