Everton manager Ronald Koeman says hints at a first team return for Ross Barkley

Ronald Koeman has hinted that Ross Barkley could start for Everton at Burnley this weekend after being dropped for the game against Manchester City.

The 22-year-old was left out of the side which secured a point in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad last Saturday, with Barkley being dropped for the first time this season.

However, the Everton boss says he expects a different kind of game against Burnley at Turf Moor and hinted that could lead to changes in his team selection.

"In my opinion it was the best line-up to have the best chance against Man City last week and his reaction was positive," Koeman said.

"He was ok, very disappointed but you need to be disappointed if you don't start in the team and he's doing well, he is training well, of course.

"In that way, how we played a little bit different than normally in pressing then I changed him and did not start with him and it can be different for the weekend."

Koeman admitted that he may decide to make changes in selection and formation given the changing nature of the opponents this weekend which he believes will call for more creativity going forward.

"That's possible because you like to have the best team for the weekend and, of course, we will have more ball possession normally this weekend than we had last week.

"It is a different game, maybe it is still more difficult because Burnley are strong at home, some good results, lost against Arsenal after 95 minutes.

"We will have more ball possession, we need more attacking and creativity and that can be a reason to play and start with one or two different players."
