Charlie Nicholas reviews Everton's 1-0 win over Stoke City in the Premier League

Charlie Nicholas gives his verdict as Everton defeat Stoke City 1-0 at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday.

Phil Bardsley conceded a penalty for clipping Ashley Williams' heel in the box just after half-time and, though Given did brilliantly to tip Leighton Baines' spot-kick onto the post, the ball rebounded into the net off his head.

Stoke pushed for an equaliser in the second half with Marko Arnautovic their primary threat but were unable to beat the excellent Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Mark Hughes questioned referee Michael Oliver's decision to award what he called a "very harsh" penalty after the game and Ronald Koeman admitted he had sympathy for his managerial counterpart.
