Everton lost 2-1 to Dynamo Dresden in the opening match of their pre-season tour of Germany on Friday evening.

Niklas Hauptmann gave the home side the lead after just 14 minutes, before Gerard Deulofeu levelled matters with a brilliant free-kick moments before the break.

However, the recently promoted second division German outfit claimed the spoils thanks to Pascal Testroet's strike midway through the second period at the DDV-Stadion.

Dresden opened the scoring against a Toffees team containing unsettled central defender John Stones in the heart of their back four when Erich Berko took advantage of a mix-up between right-back Seamus Coleman and goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg to centre for Hauptmann to score.

The visitors drew level five minutes before half-time when Deulofeu was felled on the edge of the box, with the Spain winger stepping up himself to score with an impressive curling free kick.

Deulofeu, who was Everton's best player on the night, spurned a wonderful opportunity to put the Toffees in front halfway through the second half after being set up by Kevin Mirallas's through ball.

And the Merseysiders were made to pay for that miss when two minutes later Testroet's stinging effort flew past a helpless Stekelenburg.

Deulofeu's goal did, though, hand Everton a point in the competition and they next take on Real Betis - who won their opening fixture - on Saturday afternoon.
