Shkodran Mustafi is due back in the UK and will be assessed by Arsenal’s medical staff after he suffered a suspected torn ligament during Germany's World Cup Qualifier against Azerbaijan on Sunday.
The centre-back was forced off after 36 minutes of Germany's 5-1 win in Kaiserslautern, a result that saw them claim 10 straight wins in qualification for next year's World Cup in Russia.
Germany's medical team fear he is a doubt for their next international break, Sky Sports News understands, which includes a friendly against Germany at Wembley on November 10.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger must now wait for Mustafi to undergo further tests to confirm the extent of the damage but that sort of timeframe would rule the 25-year-old out of Premier League games against Watford, Everton, Swansea and Manchester City.
He would also miss the home and away games against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup clash with Norwich on October 24.
Arsenal signed Mustafi from Valencia for £35m in August 2016 and played 37 times for Arsene Wenger's side last season.
He has featured in seven games during the current campaign but may have to wait a while to add to his tally.
