Alexis Sanchez's ankle is in a "terrible state" after the Arsenal forward demanded to return to the pitch for the second half at West Brom.
Manager Arsene Wenger says Sanchez should not have carried on after suffering a heavy knock in the first half of Arsenal's fourth defeat in five Premier League games.
Sanchez was eventually substituted in the 78th minute of the 3-1 loss, and Wenger has thrown doubt over the player's availability for Chile for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Argentina in Buenos Aires next week.
"He was injured from the tackle in the first half. His ankle is in an absolutely terrible state," the Gunners boss said.
"He should not have played in the second half but he insisted. In the first half he created many dangerous situations but in the second half he couldn't anymore, so we had to take him off.
"I think Chile goes to Argentina for a massive game and they play next week. If it's only a kick then he will play. But his ankle is swollen. If the ligament is damaged, he will not play."
Goalkeeper Petr Cech was also forced off with a leg injury in the first half at The Hawthorns while Mesut Ozil missed the game altogether with hamstring problem suffered in training on Friday.
