Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will complete the purchase of Mohamed Elneny from Basel in "a few days".
Wenger also confirmed right-back Mathieu Debuchy could leave the club during the transfer window but insisted there is no truth in the national newspaper reports linking him with Watford striker Troy Deeney.
Egypt international Elneny, who plays as a defensive midfielder, will cost Arsenal £7m but he still needs to complete a medical and gain international clearance before a transfer can go through.
"It's complicated a little bit but we work hard on it," said the Frenchman. "I hope in the next two or three days we get to the end of it.
"The only [signing]? I don't rule out anybody else. He [Elneny] will at least be one of the signings and comes into an area where we are short at the moment."
Meanwhile, French defender Debuchy - a confirmed target for Aston Villa - has been told he has "a chance to go" this month.
Villa boss Remi Garde spoke of his interest in the player saying: "I had a conversation with Arsene a few days ago about some of the players, and Mathieu Debuchy was among these players."
Wenger went on to dismiss speculation linking him with a move for Deeney, a player who Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores also said he has no intention of selling.
When asked if the stories were inaccurate, Wenger simply said: "Yes."
And he gave the same response when asked about the accuracy of newspaper articles suggesting England winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be on his way to Chelsea.
