Wales boss Chris Coleman says that Arsene Wenger should have called to warn him about the fitness of Aaron Ramsey

Chris Coleman has accused Arsene Wenger of "a cheap shot" after the Arsenal boss blamed Wales for Aaron Ramsey's injury.

Ramsey is out until after the international break with a hamstring strain suffered during Arsenal's win over Bayern Munich on October 20, and Wenger last month said the injury was down to overplaying.

The midfielder had played against Watford three days earlier after starting Wales' final two European Qualifiers - the second against Andorra with a place at the finals already guaranteed.

Wenger admitted he thought about resting Ramsey for the Watford game but said: "Realistically, the real breather he could have had was against Andorra."

That has angered Coleman, who says he would have considered leaving out Ramsey if there had been a request from Arsenal.

"If Wenger had a problem with me or my selection, call me up and I'll gladly drive to Arsenal's training ground," he said.

"Our job as managers is hard enough without us having a chip at each other, especially a cheap shot which is exactly what his comments were.

"If I get no correspondence from a club when I put my squad out, my medical team has no correspondence with whatever club's medical team, that is a green light for us to play the player. Plain and simple. There was no correspondence from Wenger or his medical team to mine, so for me it's a green light.

"If you look at what he's said, he called Roy Hodgson up about Theo Walcott to warn him. Why? He didn't call me up. Five-minute phone call. Call me up and say to me 'be careful with Aaron' and that's exactly what I would have done. I never got that phone call. Nothing."

Coleman also took Wenger to task for suggesting Gareth Bale should have missed the Andorra game.

Bale has missed Real Madrid's past four games with a calf injury and was criticised by some Spanish-based media for choosing to play.

Coleman said: "Don't comment on Gareth Bale, who doesn't figure for Arsenal and has nothing to do with Arsenal."

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ later he said: "I'm more disappointed he came out publicly rather than privately. People will say I'm now speaking publicly about it, but I'm just returning the compliment.

"Ideally this would be in a room with him and me, and that was taken out of my hands. I'm just trying to answer the allegations that were left on us."
