Olivier Giroud produced a man of the match performance to help Arsenal seal a 2-1 win over Everton

Jamie Redknapp and Thierry Henry hailed Olivier Giroud's "perfect number nine" performance for Arsenal against Everton on Saturday Night Football.

Arsenal legend Henry believes the Gunners are contenders for the Premier League title because Arsene Wenger now has two in-form options to use up front in Giroud and Theo Walcott.

Giroud has five goals in his last four games in all competitions for club and country, while Walcott has three goals and three assists across his last six matches for England and Arsenal.

"I think before Arsenal didn't have another option, and that's what they have got now with Theo Walcott," Henry told Sky Sports after watching Giroud score in a 2-1 home win. "I said before that they [Giroud and Walcott] are pushing each other.

"Giroud is doing extremely well, and he's done extremely well in the past. The question was about winning the league. Now they have two weapons, they have two options, it's different."

The France international opened the scoring for Arsenal, glancing home Mesut Ozil's cross on 36 minutes. He was a threat throughout, and according to Redknapp put together an "absolutely faultless" display.

"I thought today he was the perfect No 9," Redknapp said. "As a midfield player, you'd enjoy playing with him. Every time the ball went forward, he was there, he was selfless, and he brought others into play.

"He had good movement, and scored a brilliant goal. I thought he was absolutely faultless today. Alexis Sanchez wasn't on form, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled, and they really needed him today and he was brilliant."
