Jurgen Klopp expects Liverpool's rivals to "strike back" next season and says the club must maintain their consistency if they are to continue to challenge for honours.
Liverpool reached their second consecutive Champions League final on Tuesday night with a 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona, and Klopp's side could end the week as Premier League champions - if they beat Wolves on Sunday and Manchester City drop points at Brighton.
City lead Liverpool by a single point heading into the final day, with third-placed Chelsea 23 points further back.
However, manager Klopp expects the chasing pack to cut the gap next season after strengthening in the summer window.
"What can we say about City? They will probably not be worse next year, that's clear, and we will not be worse but the others will all strike back," said Klopp.
"The main difference between us, City and the other four teams was not the quality really, it's the consistency.
"Consistency is something you can work on and the quality will increase at the other clubs, that is how it is.
"We have to really make sure that we stay on track and do the right things again and again, and we will have very positive future."
This season's title race could yet be decided on goal difference if Liverpool draw with Wolves and City lose at Brighton on the final day.
When asked what he would say to Pep Guardiola if City successfully defend their title, Klopp said: "Congratulations for an unbelievable season for sure, it is just impressive.
"They're impressed by us, we're impressed by them, that's how it is. Both games were really close against City.
"They were really spot on, we were really spot on, so in the end we will see. It will be decided by inches anyway. That's what we accepted long ago.
"We wanted to qualify for this final and win it but we will have to see what Brighton is doing.
"Everyone seems to think we will beat Wolves and from what it sounds like, everyone is 100 per cent sure City will beat Brighton but I think they have showed already a surprising reaction at Arsenal.
"That was impressive and now without any pressure, Brighton are able to play good football. They know against City they will have to defend a lot.
"That's football, nothing is certain but I really don't think about it. The only thing I'm thinking about is what we can do against Wolves."
The last act of The Run In will be shown live on Sky Sports on a defining final day of the Premier League season.
Manchester City's trip to Brighton is live on Sky Sports Main Event from 2.30pm, while Liverpool vs Wolves at Anfield is live on Sky Sports Premier League from 2pm on Sunday, May 12. Kick-off for both games is at 3pm.
