Danny Higginbotham says Liverpool have to show a reaction against Newcastle in the Premier League title race after their Champions League semi-final first leg defeat.

Liverpool must forget about their 3-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona and redirect their focus on Saturday's crucial game with Newcastle, says Danny Higginbotham.

Jurgen Klopp's side played well in the Nou Camp, causing Barca problems until two goals from Lionel Messi in the final 15 minutes sealed victory for the Spanish champions.

There will be no let-up for Liverpool, however, as the title race enters its final stages, with the Reds knowing they must win their last two matches away to Newcastle and at home to Wolves to keep up the pressure on current leaders Manchester City.

"There's got to be a reaction, although we know the Newcastle game is going to be difficult regardless of anything [else]," Higginbotham told Sky Sports News.

"The way Newcastle play, especially against the top teams, they look to frustrate them and it ends up more often than not a back five.

"Liverpool have got to go there and win, they have got to get this game [Barcelona] out of their system.

"Jurgen Klopp will be saying to his players, 'the scoreline flattered Barcelona. We have gone to Barcelona, we have dominated them for large amounts of the game, so you've got to be confident.'

"Obviously, they have lost 3-0 but they will believe they've still got the opportunity of getting through in the second leg.
