Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard must be 'busy and interested' to succeed as a coach at the club.
Gerrard, who took over as Under-18 boss of the at the start of this season, has guided Liverpool to third in the Premier League U18 table
"I'm really happy that Steven enjoys [the coaching] because it doesn't happen too often that a player of his size starts on this level", Klopp told Bet Victor.
"That's why I always say it's a job you have to learn. If you are ready to learn it you don't have to be a genius to come through; you need to be busy and interested, and then it's possible.
"It's a big help that you have been a world-class player, because then you know all about the game and have your own ideas. But if it's the only thing you were - a world-class player but not ready to learn the next step - then it doesn't help.
"It's a fantastic time at the moment [at Liverpool] and hopefully Steven feels that he can really do what I miss very often - just train. Because the job now has so many things that sometimes there is no time for training and you think, 'wow, how did that happen?'"
Gerrard says being able to reach out to Klopp for advice and guidance is like 'gold-dust' and admits he is learning every day as a coach.
"I've got different players with different styles," Klopp added. "You have to find out about the individual, their strengths and weaknesses and then play a way that suits those people.
"I don't think it's fair to ask some of my kids to run like [Sadio] Mane or do what [Roberto] Firmino does, because they're already ready to be top players. But it's a fascinating job because you learn so much every day about players."
