Sadio Mane admits Liverpool cannot afford to continue their inconsistency if they are to qualify for the Champions League.

The Senegal international scored his 12th league goal of the season in Saturday's 3-1 win over Arsenal to lift the Reds up to third, ahead of Manchester City's game against Sunderland on Nissan Super Sunday.

Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal

The victory means Jurgen Klopp's side have now earned 19 points against top-six sides this season, but their five defeats have come against teams in the bottom half - the latest of which was at relegation-threatened Leicester last Monday.

Mane says he and his team-mates must ensure they do not slip-up in their remaining games, starting against Burnley next weekend on Super Sunday.

"We have 11 games so we will try to concentrate on them all," said the 24-year-old forward.

"It was very important for us to win this game because last Monday's game was disappointing.

"For us it will be very important to be consistent now if we are to go up another level.

Saturday's win saw Klopp record his 100th Premier League point as Liverpool manager and the German concedes the defeats by Burnley, Bournemouth, Swansea, Hull and Leicester are part of his side's long-term development.

"I've said a few times now, I don't like the fact that inconsistency is part of the deal in development," said Klopp.

"Usually you win games and you lose against the big teams because at the beginning, when they are at a higher level, they are smarter and more experienced and you lose the games.

"We've chosen another way but it's still part of the deal and we know that we have to keep on going - and we will."
