Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn both scored twice as Liverpool U23s beat their counterparts from Huddersfield 6-2 in the Premier League Cup at the Tameside Stadium on Sunday.

Liverpool took just nine minutes to open the scoring when Woodburn beat Luke Coddington with a delightful curler, and they then doubled their advantage midway through the first half.

The impressive Woodburn was again involved, with the pacy forward showing good skill to get past a defender on the left flank, before setting up Matty Virtue for a clever back-heeled finish.

Woodburn was also the provider for Wilson's first strike two minutes before half-time as the club's youngest-ever scorer laid a goal on a plate for his captain, his 23rd of the season.

And Mike Garrity's side further extend their lead seconds before the interval after working a corner short to Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose inch-perfect right-wing cross was headed home by Sheyi Ojo as the Reds led 4-0 at the break.

Six minutes into the second period and Wilson grabbed his second of the match with a looping header over Coddington, before Huddersfield responded with two goals from Oli Dyson.

However, the contest ended on an ugly note after Alexander-Arnold, who came on as a late substitute in the first team's 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday, became involved in an off-the-ball incident with Jamie Spencer.
