Roberto Firmino has been charged with drink-driving after he was stopped in Liverpool on Christmas Eve.
Merseyside Police confirmed the arrest and said the Reds forward would appear before magistrates on January 31, the same day Liverpool host Premier League title rivals Chelsea.
A police statement read: "Merseyside Police has charged a 25-year-old man with drink driving after his car was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday, December 24 2016.
"Roberto Firmino, from Liverpool, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court on January 31."
Brazilian Firmino is in his second season at Anfield following a £29m move from Hoffenheim and said this week he plans to stay at the club for years to come.
Sky sources say Liverpool are aware the player has been charged and will allow the legal process to run its course before making further comment.
Firmino remains available for selection and is expected to feature against Stoke on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports.
