Christian Benteke felt the referee was correct in awarding the late penalty at Selhurst Park

Christian Benteke feels the referee was right to award Liverpool an injury-time penalty against Crystal Palace.

With the score 1-1 entering stoppage-time, 10-man Liverpool were awarded a controversial penalty as Benteke fell down under a challenge by defender Damien Delaney in the penalty box.

Referee Andre Marriner pointed to the spot, after consulting with his assistant, allowing the Belgium international to send McCarthy the wrong way with one of the last kicks of the game (90+6) and seal a dramatic win.

And speaking to Sky Sports' Geoff Shreeves straight after the game, Benteke felt the penalty was rightly awarded.

Should Liverpool's injury-time penalty against Crystal Palace have been awarded? Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry debated the incident

"To be sure I think he touched me otherwise I wouldn't have gone down," he told Sky Sports.

"I think the referee knows better than us and he took the right decision."
