Simon Mignolet was ruled out of Liverpool’s Premier League match against Watford at Vicarage Road because of a hamstring problem.
The Belgium goalkeeper was expected to start the match against the Hornets, but failed to recover from the injury, with Adam Bogdan replacing him and youngster Ryan Fulton taking his place on the substitutes' bench.
Mignolet has received criticism from certain sections of the Liverpool support this season for perceived poor performances, but manager Jurgen Klopp insisted it was injury and not bad form which ruled him out of Sunday's match.
The Liverpool boss also gave his backing to Bogdan ahead of the goalkeeper's Premier League debut for the club.
"He has played in the Capital One Cup since I've been here and has always done well. So, we know his quality," Klopp told Sky Sports.
"It is not a big thing with Simon, he tried everything, but if you have someone like Adam on the bench you have to use this opportunity."
