Adam Bogdan insists he is happy to be patient for his chance to become Liverpool's No 1 goalkeeper.
The 28-year-old, who signed from Championship side Bolton on a free transfer in the summer, is set to start in the Capital One Cup quarter-final at Southampton, live on Sky Sports 1 HD on Wednesday night.
Bogdan's only appearances for the Reds so far have come in the League Cup wins over Carlisle and Bournemouth, but he insists he is ready to capitalise on any dip in form from first-choice Simon Mignolet.
"It's not easy dropping back to the bench after these games but at the same time, when the team is doing well and the other keeper is doing well, you have to accept it," he told Sky Sports.
"I just have to continue to play well, train well and see what happens. My aim is to play week in, week out, but I don't see any other way. I will do well in training and in games and other things you can't really control.
"For me, these cup ties are really important. They always have been. I made my debut for Bolton against Southampton in this competition, and I made my Liverpool debut in it too. It's important for me to keep on this run.
"I respect Simon fully and I know how much he works and puts in every day. He has my support as well, and his clean-sheet statistics show how good he is."
Bogdan has 19 caps for Hungary - a country that recently lost one of its best-ever goalkeepers in the former Sunderland and Tottenham man Marton Fulop.
Fulop sadly passed away earlier this month at the age of 32, following a battle with cancer, and Bogdan insists he will always be remembered as one of Hungary's best.
He said: "It was really sad what happened. I always looked up to him. We came from the same area of the same city and we kept in contact, even when he was ill.
"He never played in the top league in Hungary but he showed you didn't have to in order to make it. He was an inspirational character and showed me it was possible for me to make it too.
"He is going to be missed very badly. He is going to be remembered as one of Hungary's top players who played in the Premier League."
