James Milner says Liverpool are "not a million miles away" from their first victory under new manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Southampton at Anfield on Sunday - the club's third successive draw since the German's arrival.

Liverpool have now drawn eight of their 14 matches this season and have not won a game since beating bottom of the league Aston Villa on September 26th.

However, Milner firmly believes a first victory under Klopp is just around the corner.

"We're not that far away," said the 29 year-old midfielder.

"We've only lost two games this year, we have drawn eight of the last nine or something ridiculous like that.

"We feel we can perform a lot better but we're not losing the games, looking on the positive side. We're not a million miles away. We know we need to improve and know we can improve.

A major positive for Klopp on Sunday was the return to form of striker Christian Benteke. The Belgian, who recently returned to action following a hamstring injury, came off the bench to put Liverpool ahead with a powerful header.

Benteke, 24, has now scored three goals in seven league games since his £32.5m arrival from Aston Villa and Milner was quick to acknowledge the forward's importance to Liverpool's season.

"To get Christian back is great," said Milner. "The strikers we have at the club offer different things, they're a good mix, and there will be a lot of changes to the way we play."
