Adam Lallana cannot wait to get to work under new Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Lallana watched Klopp's unveiling last week while away with the England squad but already has his eye on a return to club action ahead of the final European Qualifier against Lithuania on Monday night.

The former Southampton midfielder played the last 14 minutes of the 1-1 Merseyside derby draw that turned out to be Brendan Rodgers' last game, and he will return to Merseyside with a new man in charge.

Klopp has signed a three-year deal to take over from Rodgers and Lallana is among those expecting him to bring excitement and enthusiasm to the club, having been impressed with what he saw from 'the Normal One'.

"I am excited, very excited, to work with the new manager," he said.

Jurgen Klopp has given himself a four-year target to win the Premier League with Liverpool. He's described the job as the biggest challenge in football

"Of course it is a big season," Lallana said. "Last year was frustrating. Even the beginning of this season was frustrating, picking up yet another injury.

"I am working really hard to keep fit because I feel if I stay fit, then the club will see the best of me.

"It was obviously disappointing to see Brendan go and our indifferent start, but change happens in football."

Phil Thompson feels the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager will be a marriage made in heaven.

Lallana is looking forward to returning to Merseyside before the first match of Klopp's reign at Tottenham, but before that comes England's qualifier in Vilnius.

The attacking midfielder started Friday's 2-0 win against Estonia and hopes to impress if given another chances in Vilnius.

"I am really looking forward to Monday," he said. "It is another opportunity to impress, but mainly we're going there to get the win and complete qualification on a high with our 10th win out of 10."
