Jamie Redknapp believes Jurgen Klopp is the ideal man to replace Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager.
The German is the bookmakers' favourite to take the job at Anfield following the sacking of Rodgers on Sunday evening.
Klopp is currently on a sabbatical after leaving Borussia Dortmund in May and former Reds midfielder Redknapp said the fact that the club have acted now suggests they will try to approach Klopp.
"Klopp has that aura and special something about him. He can walk into Anfield and the fans would like that," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"He would be the perfect fit. He is available, the fact they've acted now makes me think they will go for him.
"You do need someone who understands the fabric of the club like Robbie Fowler and Didi Hamann who they may start to look at to help him."
Rodgers was dismissed after the 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park after a run of one victory in the past nine matches.
And Redknapp, who played for the club from 1991 until 2002, said he was not surprised he paid the price by losing his job.
"Some of the football Liverpool played at times was fantastic, you can say he had Luis Suarez. But he gave him the right role, and dealt with the situations Suarez caused well," added Redknapp.
"He had to deal with Raheem Sterling leaving the club and lost Steven Gerrard this season.
"Unless he got off to a really good start, which he did okay, it was always going to be difficult to recover that.
"There was a bit of panic looking at other clubs, if they don't get the manager they want another club will."
The new manager could be installed in time for the Reds' next game against Tottenham on October 17.
