Former Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly has said his former team-mate John Terry should consider moving away from Stamford Bridge.
Terry, now 35, who joined Chelsea 18 years ago, has been expected to leave the club this summer but instead accepted an offer of a one-year contract in May.
The defender had previously been linked to various moves abroad to China, the US and the Middle East and said in January he did not think he would retire as a one-club player.
French international Desailly, who played for Chelsea between 1998 and 2004, said it would be good for his friend and former team-mate to experience another club.
"He is still the leader and maybe Conte met him and realised that John is still ready to sacrifice everything for the club," said Desailly, who also captained his country during a glittering career.
"John doesn't have to be first choice but keeping him is good for the continuity of the team.
"So I am very happy for him but it would also have been good for him to experience something else.
"I know from my own experience that it's good on a personal level and for your family.
"My message to him would be that it's great to experience another country, another life.
"I was talking to (former Real Madrid striker) Raul about it recently and he said (moving to the US) was good for him and his kids.
"And Frank Lampard never thought he'd leave (Chelsea) but he went to America and he's seen another approach to life."
Terry, who has skippered the club to four Premier League titles and a Champions League, was signed for an extra year by new manager Antonio Conte as cover for whoever the Italian brings in to complement Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma.
