John Terry to miss Chelsea's Champions League clash with PSG

Chelsea captain John Terry has confirmed that he will miss Wednesday's Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain with a hamstring problem.

There was though better news for manager Guus Hiddink with the return of Diego Costa, who missed Saturday's 1-1 draw against Stoke, and Pedro who has recovered from a hamstring problem.

Terry did not train with the rest of the squad on Tuesday morning, all but confirming that he would be out of contention for the round of 16 second leg at Stamford Bridge.

He has missed the team's last five matches after sustaining the injury in Chelsea's 5-1 win over Newcastle last month, and the defender revealed he is not yet able to return.

"I'm gutted to be missing the PSG game. It's so frustrating missing any game," said Terry.

"But these big Champions League nights at the Bridge are unbelievable and it hurts as a player not to be involved.

"I have thrown everything at my injury trying to get back fit, but sometimes you have to let the injury settle. Thankfully, I'm on the mend and I hope to be back soon."

PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic expressed his regret that Chelsea's 35-year-old centre-half was unavailable.

He said: "I would like him to play. We want to play against the best teams and the best players. If he's on the pitch it's the best team for Chelsea.

"Without him, it's also a fantastic team but to face the best players and succeed - that is what we play for."

Hiddink had initially been hopeful about the former England captain's return, hoping to include him in a practice match to improve his match fitness.

But that did not materialise and Terry will now look ahead to Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final at Everton for his return.
