Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji has joined Weder Bremen on loan until the end of the season.

Djilobodji arrived at Stamford Bridge on deadline day in the summer but has since played just one minute for the Premier League champions.

Bremen, who finished the first half of the Bundesliga campaign in 16th position out of 18 - confirmed the deal on Thursday afternoon.

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho signed the 28-year-old from Nantes on a four-year deal for a fee of £2.7m on a recommendation.

However, the Senegal defender's sole appearance for the Blues was from the bench in the 89th minute of a Capital One Cup win over Walsall in September.

Guus Hiddink, who was drafted in as interim manager when Mourinho was sacked in December, also failed to select the centre-back despite Chelsea's defensive lapses this season.
