Gary Neville had a stinging assessment of Man Utd's dismal season after a draw with Huddersfield ended their top-four hopes.
United earned the unwanted record of becoming the first top-six team Huddersfield have taken points off this season after an uninspired 1-1 draw.
The result mean United cannot catch either Chelsea or Tottenham, who currently occupy the third and fourth spots with a game to play.
Neville did not hold back in his criticism of his former club, who are finishing the season with a whimper after winning only one of their last eight games, and picking up eight points from as many Premier Leagues matches.
"This is Huddersfield Town who have struggled all season. You watch them, they haven't got the quality, but I like watching them a lot more than the ones in the red shirts, to be honest.
"At least you can identify with them. There's nothing I like about this United team at all. It's just awful. Look at them. They're the most despondent group of people.
"As a manager, you want to like your team. I look at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, I can't imagine he's down there thinking he likes watching this lot - I don't.
"This isn't a team at all. It reminds me of the Tottenham group Mauricio Pochettino inherited, with Kaboul, Adebayor, Capoue in, a group of individuals without any real spirit - he dismantled it piece by piece.
"Ole will need to do the same, it'd be nice if the club got an experienced sporting director to help him, but the shambles of that recruitment reported in the press this week hasn't helped."
Neville's Sky Sports colleague Jamie Redknapp was equally scathing.
"The last six, seven, eight games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer there have been a lot of question marks. We all looked at Jose Mourinho and said he was the main problem," said Redknapp.
"I've no doubt they needed to move on from him, you could see he was damaging the club to a certain extent, and everyone's saying if we can bring in more players in the summer that might be the way forward.
"But since Sir Alex Ferguson left they've spent £744m and what they've done is try to buy the Harlem Globetrotters, not necessarily players to make a team.
"Look at what Manchester City and Liverpool have done in that time, they've bought the right players without any egos. It's alright saying sell Paul Pogba, but there's so much more that's wrong with that club.
"They've got a manager in Solskjaer - we all like him but he's managed Molde, he's managed Cardiff. You want someone who's going to know the market to go and buy players, to bring the best out of them, and you're competing with Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp.
"It's a big year for him, and my fear is if they don't start well next season, he'll be under enormous pressure. And then you have to, maybe even sack him - and it feels like that'll happen."
