Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ruled Nemanja Matic out for 'a few weeks' with a muscle injury

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Nemanja Matic will miss "a few weeks" of football after suffering a muscle injury.

Matic was a surprise omission from United's squad for their Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday.

Scott McTominay replaced Matic in the starting XI and Solskjaer confirmed the Serbian had suffered a muscle injury in the build-up to the match.

Speaking ahead of the game, Solskjaer said: "It is a big blow. He has had a muscle injury so he'll be out for a few weeks.

"These things happen during the season so we'll just have to manage without him.

"Nemanja, with his experience and his performances of late, has been vital for us in midfield but then again Scott has played these games before.
