Liverpool playing Manchester United at the worst possible time, says Tim Sherwood

Tim Sherwood says it is the worst time for Liverpool to face Manchester United ahead of their Super Sunday clash at Old Trafford, live on Sky Sports.

United bounced back from their disappointing midweek Champions League last-16 first leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain by beating Chelsea 2-0 in their FA Cup fifth-round tie at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

Aside from United's defeat to the Ligue 1 champions, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have won their other three matches in February.

And Sherwood told the Debate on Monday that United will want to halt Liverpool's pursuit of the domestic title in their "biggest game of the season".

"You couldn't pick a worse time to play Manchester United," he said.

"If you asked United when they wanted to play this game they would pick now because they are flying. If they want to mess up anyone's season it's Liverpool.

"They've got top four to play for themselves and Solskjaer is doing a good dress rehearsal at the moment [for the permanent job]. This is their biggest game of the season.

"When it means so much to either side it means more to Liverpool than United because they are in touching distance of the title."

Liverpool are currently level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table (65), but have played one less league game than Pep Guardiola's side.

Sherwood believes City are prioritising the Champions League over back-to-back league trophies, but will still beat Liverpool in the title race, too.

He added: "Yes, City want to win the domestic league but the players, the hierarchy there and the manager want to win the Champions League. That's their priority.

"I'm not going to say they're going to take their foot off the pedal by any means in the Premier League. They'll want to win it back to back.

"Advantage is Liverpool, but look over your shoulders because City are coming.

"I backed City at the start of the season and I won't change my mind because they will catch Liverpool."
