Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists David De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has labelled David de Gea the best goalkeeper in the world - and believes the Spaniard is challenging Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar for the accolade of Manchester United's greatest stopper.

De Gea produced a man-of-the-match performance at Wembley with 11 saves as Solskjaer made it six wins from six as United interim manager with a 1-0 victory over Tottenham.

Marcus Rashford capped a fine first-half attacking display with what turned out to be the winning goal just before the interval, but the impenetrable De Gea stole the show as he withstood a second-half Spurs onslaught.

Asked if De Gea's performance was the best of his United career, Solskjaer replied: "He had one against Arsenal a few years ago," before jokingly adding, "he should have held a few of the saves!

"I've said it many times, though, we've got the best goalkeeper in the world.

"Obviously when you make 11 saves it is a top performance, but even so, two of them were top saves. The rest you would expect David to make, they were more about concentration and being in the right position.
