Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United could surprise a few people this season but said they will not be too 'gung-ho' against Tottenham

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United will not use "naive, gung-ho" tactics against Tottenham despite the desire to play attacking football.

United have won all five games since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in December, scoring 16 goals in the process.

Solskjaer faces arguably his toughest test to date on Sunday when his side travel to face Tottenham, live on Sky Sports Premier League, and the United boss says he will have to adopt a more cautious approach at Wembley.

"When you play against a good team you have got to defend. You have to earn the right to win a game of football," Solskjaer told Soccer AM.

"We're not going to go gung-ho and be naïve but Manchester United is about attacking football.

"We've got to go there and attack the game, we have to win to stand a chance of passing them in the league. We go there to take three points.

"Walking out at Wembley with a Manchester United shirt on, that brings the best out in quite a few players. Hopefully we can see that."

United are six points off the top four but Solskjaer believes the Red Devils could surprise people with their final position this season.

"They know they are good players, they are playing for Manchester United," he said.

"If we all stick together and do our best every day then we might just surprise a few with the way we could end the season."

Solskjaer says he has received advice from Sir Alex Ferguson since becoming caretaker manager at Old Trafford.

When asked what is the most valuable trait to learn from Ferguson, Solskjaer said: "The hunger to improve, the hunger to win. To get up next morning, if you win or lose, to try and improve the club.

"He is the best ever, I would be stupid to not try and learn from him."
